Proud to be BITSian Food King Sarath Babu voted as Pepsi MTV Youth Icon 2008

The Pepsi MTV Youth Icon for 2003 was Anil Ambani, for 2004 Rahul Dravid, for 2005 Shahrukh Khan, for 2006 M S Dhoni, for 2007 ORKUT and the search was just completed for the year 2008.

The difference this year was to look out for the ones who may not be super achievers but those who have made a difference. From the 8000+ entries received, 30 spirited Youngsters were first short-listed and it's a matter of pride that this list itself included two Proud to be BITSians Food King Sarath Babu and DhanaX Siva Prasad. Based on public voting, the final 8 icons were selected from the list of 30. The voting phase of the Event concluded on 1st December 2008 midnight.

Sarath Babu with never say die attitude and hunger for the impossible who graduated from Birla Institute of Technology and Science - BITS Pilani which is one among the top ranking universities in India today draws his inspiration from the quote "When you take up a mission with passion, there are no dreams too large, no innovation unimaginable and no frontiers beyond reach".

Serving someone food is an extremely satisfying feeling. The smile you get after giving good food to someone is an experience to cherish. With seed money of Rs 2,000/-, his venture today is spread across several locations to the tune of Rs 9 crores and with the going strong is geared to double by the year-end. Through Food King he desires to give quality employment to the poor. In the next 5 years he wants Food King to be a source of employment for 50,000 people by opening 400-500 branches all over the country. For 28 year old Sarath, his mother, who once sold idlis on the pavements of Chennai and worked as an ayah, is a pillar of strength. Sarath's drive for achievement comes from John F Kennedy quote " Our task is not to fix the blame for the past, but fix the course for the future."
