The Swinden Group Advises Clients in Sri Lanka and Southern India of Approaching Storm
EVERGREEN, Co — December 6, 2008 0600 UTC— The Swinden Group’s Weather Risk Management service is advising clients in the Sri Lanka and southern India region to prepare for the arrival of Tropical Cyclone 07B. The storm is expected to bring tropical storm force winds to the coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and heavy rains to the region of southern India, possibly causing widespread flooding.Currently located approximately 360 nm southeast of Chennai, India, the center of the storm is expected to pass to the north of Sri Lanka before making landfall over India late Sunday and early Monday. Once over land, the storm is expected to weaken.
The major threat for the region of northern Sri Lanka and southern India will be the possibility of widespread flooding.
In late November, Tropical Cyclone Nisha passed over the region causing substantial damage to Sri Lanka and southern India. Interests in the region should be prepared for additional flooding caused by this present storm along with disruptions and / or delays to travel and utilities in the region.
