Paisiello's "La Serva Padrona"

Paisiello's "La Serva Padrona"

Among the latest products dedicated to the so improrerly called art music, stands out for the rarity of the proposed title and exquisite interpretation, the one proposed by RC Record Classic Label group and dedicated to the two parts Opera by Giovanni Paisiello La Serva Padrona.
RC Record Classic, affiliated to Naxos at the end of 2016, has as its target audience the spectators most passionate about instrumental and operatic music - late baroque and full classical period, with particular reference to the production of music recordings composed by Authors and titles less frequented by the traditional record market.
Rc Record Classic Label released already recordings dedicated to Cimarosa, Vanhal, Mozart (Wolfgang and Leopold), Paisiello, Beethoven and Scarlatti, and on July, releases this new production dedicated to the famous Italian Intermezzo by Giovanni Paisiello (1740-1816 ). The composer, for this occasion, was forced to reuse and partly adapt th libretto by Gennaro Antonio Federico, put already in music by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi in 1733.
The performers are Roberto Vicarelli (as Uberto) and Anne Chapman is Serpina.
Vicarelli and Chapman, Dionysian voices, are well prepared for the technical lightness required by works of the funny repertoire of the Neapolitan School of the late eighteenth century.
In particular, the richness of expressive nuances of Vicarelli and Chapman are appreciable in the clarity of the diction and articulation of literary text, in the more than technical, almost innate possession of classical executive practice (there is a lack of variations in the repeating sections in this edition during the arias and the duets, which emphasize the excellent vocal qualities of the two interpreters, clear and natural phrasing, supported by a great technique that allows accurate pitch and sound support.
Same remarks about how much lively pitch sound support offered by Harmoniae Templum Chamber Orchestra, an English companion specialized on Baroque and Classical Italian repertoire.
The orchestra, even in this recording, supports, accompanies and, in a way, gives a third dimension to the singer's interpretation, without ever overcoming the protagonist.
Simone Perugini's orchestra's conduction, (he is now at its third record label with RC Record Classic Label), is confirmed by an amazing interpretations always supported by a great sense of theater that characterizes all the operatic performances of this Florentine conductor, who for years has been working as a researcher in the funny work of the Neapolitan School. Precisely the sense of the theater, which, in spite of years of study, is, above all, innate quality in Mr. Perugini and which seems to always emphasize the close kinship between literary text, dramatic situations and musical solutions, makes this record release a real gem. Even though it is made in the studio, the listener seems to be directly transported to the auditorium of a theater from which he can enjoy all the elements that characterize this work. It's not just a simple music listening to what RC Record Classic Label offers us, but a real, as it would be said today, a full lived "theatrical experience".

Consider the stamina shown just over 230 years ago in Vienna, when after listening to a three-hour opera (presumably plus a pause between the two acts) Leopold II ordered the work to be repeated in its entirety after an interval for supper. Assuming at least an hour for this (probably longer), the evening’s entertainment must have extended over about nine hours – almost awe-inspiring in this sound-bite era of ours.

"Che si suoni, che si canti, tutti quanti han da brillar" composes Cimarosa on the latest verses with which Giovanni Bertati concludes the comic masterpiece "Il Matrimonio Segreto", which premiered at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 7 February 1792. Early on, as many of the melodies already know, "Il Matrimonio Segreto", although indicated by its authors as Dramma Giocoso (synonym of comic opera), is a very complicated work in many ways:

Rc Record Classic: a wonderful performance of a rare Cimarosa's sacred piece
Poor Cimarosa. His early career as a spectacularly successful composer of opera buffa, perhaps one of the leading stars in a very popular field, sputtered when he encountered the Russian court. Catherine the Great, like her predecessors, had a thing for Italian opera, and in order to indulge this fancy was hell-bent upon inducing every major composer of the genre to come to St. Petersburg to write for her, and
