VoiceOverXtra is the voice-over industry's online news, education and resource center

Paula Lin - international voice talent, writer, and educator - has been named senior editor at VoiceOverXtra the voice-over industry’s online news, education and resource center.

Lin’s appointment marks an expansion of the service to daily voice-over news and how-to features.

A former broadcast journalist with CNN, Lin is based in the Washington, D.C. area, where she is CEO and founder of The Definitive Voice, a voice-over services company. She wears additional hats, including writer and copyeditor, for different venues.

In her role as VoiceOverXtra’s senior editor, Lin writes and edits news and features about the challenging and ever-changing voice-over industry and its people.

“Paula has such an upbeat personality and enthusiasm for projects that everyone will find her a joy to work with,” says John Florian, founder and webmaster of VoiceOverXtra.

“She’s also immensely qualified for this position, with her background in voice acting, broadcast, and education,” he adds.

Launched in July 2007 as a career resource for voice actors, VoiceOverXtra has become a major source of industry news and how-to features and podcasts.

The free online service is a virtual library of how-to-succeed advice from industry experts, and includes an industry directory, online home studio and book stores, calendar of industry and training events, talent demo samples, podcasts, newsletters, and more.

Lin’s voice-over credits and activities include commercials, narrations, voice mail systems and additional services.

She is the voice of Grantham University’s online web site tour, narrates news for the Montgomery County (MD) public school system, and produced podcasts that launched The Positive News Network.

She was also a voice talent for Reuters Health Video Online and military training scripts.

Lin was a consultant for the 2008 Organization of Chinese Americans’ 35th Anniversary video, and voiced English translations for GE’s Bejing’s Pride video about the 2008 Summer Olympics in China.

“Being of Chinese ancestry myself, I was thrilled to be even a little part of the Olympics, particularly in what I do for a living,” she says.

Lin’s voice career began in the Connecticut/New York City market in radio, as a radio news anchor/reporter.

This led to a broadcast journalism career at various CNN news departments: CNNI, CNN Interactive, CNN Radio Network, CNN Headline News, and CNN Newsource.

“But I retired from the hard-hitting news arena,” she says. “It wasn’t the right fit for me back then, trying to be another Connie Chung. I was too polite to ask the kinds of tough, invasive questions that reporters should be comfortable asking.”

Today, In addition to voice and communication projects, Lin teaches voice-over and copy writing at the CSB School of Broadcasting, where she says, “Instructing keeps me on my toes, and helping to groom the future talents in the world is exhilarating!”

A multi-award-winning broadcast journalist, Lin was also a top finalist in the 2007 Voice-Over Victory Contest sponsored by The Great Voice Company.
