Centenarian Book Jahrhundertmensch will be launched this December

Frankfurt, 18.11.2008. Moonblinx Publishing will for the first time present the impressive Centenarian Book Jahrhundertmensch (Living a Century) by Art Photographer Karsten Thormaehlen early December at famous Hotel Adlon in Berlin. An artistic photographer, a sociologist and a journalist wage an investigation into the phenomenon of age from their individual perspectives, according to completely different approaches. The photographer Karsten Thormaehlen has taken portraits of people who have all lived to be one hundred or more. He introduces us to people who lived through the entire 20th century— through two World Wars, destruction and reconstruction, the division and reunification of Germany—and he has them tell how it is to become very old and, above all, how it is to live as a very old individual. The portraits are accompanied by two essays written by authors with an excellent understanding of the topic of aging: an essay by the sociologist Peter Gross, who has noticeably stirred up the current discussion on age with his latest publication Glücksfall Alter (translates as: The Luck of Aging), and the article Living a Century by the Der Spiegel journalist Barbara Hardinghaus, who was honored with the Emma Award for Female Journalists for this article. "People who have seen the exhibition Jahrhundertmensch in the past are touched by Karsten Thormaehlen's work," says Moonblinx Director Junji Ohta, "the first reviews have been very good.
