Press release from: College Confidence

Today, more than ever, preparing for college early is essential. This is not only due to the competitive job market upon graduation, but also the extensive demands being placed on students in the college acceptance process, as well as today’s increased college choices. In addition, factor in the low rate of acceptance at some of the best colleges and you’ll soon see how essential it is to start your college planning as early as the 9th grade.

It also pays to have someone familiar with the college admission requirements on your side to help you through the entire process. College Confidence does just that. Through their workshops and The College Road Trip, Your Admissions Planner they guide students into the right direction answering the many questions that students and their parents routinely have.

Sonja Montiel, founder of College Confidence, earned her MA degree in education at the University of California at Santa Barbara and serves on the executive board of the Western Association for College Admission Counseling (WACAC). Through her insight as a former admissions counselor for the University of California system and her ability to engage and motivate her audience, Sonja conducts these workshops that work with students on the following to ensure that they are on the right track towards their choice college:

1. Do you have a high school checklist prepared from 9th grade to senior year? Workshops will describe in detail each step necessary to understand the college requirements. It also safeguards you from missing vital deadlines. A general high school checklist is provided on their website at http://www.collegeconfidence.com.

2. Do you know the dates of all the testing required and are you familiar with how you can adequately prepare for them? The SATs and ACTs are vital parts of the acceptance process. By understanding the meaning of how these tests influence the college admission process and knowing the dates of these vital exams, you can better anticipate what expected of you.

3. Do you know what requirements make the impact in the admission decision? Among other things, it’s important to know the GPA requirement for each of the different schools as well as learning how to write an impact on your college essay.

4. Are you aware of what financial aid is available to you? This is an essential part of college planning. There are many options available and each has its own benefits and terms you need to know.

Armed with the right information you can make the right choices. College Confidence’s One Day workshops provide families with an action plan for the college admissions process providing families with all the tools, resources and specific directions they need to achieve their college goals. With such staggering statistics of Harvard accepting 2,095 out of 20,987 applications and UC Los Angeles accepting only 9,949 out of 43,199, don’t you want to do everything you can to prepare?

Contact College Confidence, http://www.collegeconfidence.com for additional information and to schedule a workshop. Workshops are held for 8th to 11th graders and their parents from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. every third Saturday, except holidays, at Cal Lutheran University. Workshops can also be scheduled elsewhere depending on the amount of participation. The College Road Trip Your Admissions Planner is available online at http://www.collegeconfidence.com.
