New batch of corporate social responsibility (CSR) case studies launched

Article 13, the CSR and sustainability expert, has published a new batch of case studies profiling the initiatives being undertaken by three members of the Confederation of British Industries (CBI) to embed and integrate corporate social responsibility in their mainstream business strategies. The CBI members showcased in this edition are: Anglian Water, Costain Group and KPMG.

Anglian Water has been selected for its comprehensive approach to tackling climate change, which recognises the importance of partnerships, behavioural change and communication. Anglian Water believes it is essential to adapt to protect customers, services, sites, infrastructure, employees and the environment from the risks associated with climate change. As a result of its efforts to date, Anglian Water has been recognised as an industry leader on energy management which has raised awareness and increased trust amongst key stakeholders. A number of Costain Group employees have adopted a strategic approach to upskilling which has brought community benefits and is encouraging the development of a company-wide volunteering programme. The participants in Costain’s High Potential Programme ran a short management exercise project to put their new skills into practice. The two-day project involved upgrading landscaped areas in the grounds of a primary school and involved the Costain employees using their team management, team work, programme management, resourcing and procurement skills. KPMG’s UK Staff Charity partnership with Help the Hospices has involved capacity building, fundraising and employee development. This two year partnership has proved highly successful, raising over £1 million for the charity and involving more than 200 KPMG staff in volunteering. Through this partnership, KPMG employees have enhanced their core competencies and skills and KPMG has raised its profile as a good corporate citizen in local communities. As well as providing valuable financial support, KPMG has also used its expertise in environmental management and carbon reduction to enable Help the Hospices to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.
