Its a well known fact that members of every major religion in the world undertake pilgrimages. For the Hindus its Benaras - Kashi and Rameshwaram, for the Christians its Vatican, for the Sikhs its Amritsar, for the Buddhists its Bodh Gaya, for the Muslims its Mecca and so on. For the alumni of BITS Pilani which is one among the top ranking universities in India today, visiting their alma mater years after their graduation, is indeed a pilgrimage and a mission with passion.

For the past ten years, Adil Mistry is teaching Multimedia at Central TAFE, eCentral Campus, East Perth Australia. He started his career as site engineer with Siemens (India) and then was consultant engineer at MN Dastur & Co. Following that, he was associated with several industries in New Zealand and Australia.

During November 10 – 12, 2008, Adil Mistry visited his alma mater Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani Rajasthan where he was a student during 1974 -1979 and obtained his B.E. (Hons) Electrical & Electronics Engineering degree.

It is indeed a matter of pride for the alma mater that Adil Mistry chose to do his sabbatical from August to November 2008 by teaching a course on Creative Multimedia for the students of BITS Pilani Goa Campus.

During his extensive interactions with students packed with passion for Multimedia at Pilani, Adil pointed out that Multimedia is all about Creative Management and emphasized that a successful multimedia expert must possess Information Skills, Problem Solving Skills, Decision Making Skills and Communication Skills apart from Ability for Time, Stress and Project Management.

Adil minced no words in thanking the broad based integrated and interdisciplinary approach of education at BITS Pilani which gave him ample opportunities from admissions to graduations for developing such skills and acquiring such ability to ensure that winning in tough situations became a way of his life.

During his visit to Pilani, Adil Mistry had extensive interactions with Prof L K Maheshwari Vice Chancellor as well as with Dr Sangeeta Sharma Group Leader Languages, Prof JP Mishra and Prof Sundar Balasubramaniam from Computer Science. He visited the alumni office and interacted with Dr R K Mittal President BITSAA (BITS Alumni Association) for maximizing the Alumni participation in Institution building activities for the alma mater. On Monday 10 November 2008, Adil Mistry delivered a lecture on Creative aspects of Multimedia which was highly appreciated by one and all.

Going around the Institute, Adil Mistry was impressed by the new Library building, Lecture Theatre Complex, Students Activity Centre etc and said that BITSAT model of admissions could have been done only by a top ranking university in India today like BITS Pilani which knows the way, goes the way and shows the way. He also visited the Birla Museum in the campus which is one of the first and still the finest Science and Technology museum in India today.

In an exclusive message to BITSAA, Adil conveyed that the sabbatical with Goa campus is only the beginning of his association with alma mater and not the end. He urged Proud to be BITSian alumni across the world to share their subject and domain expertise by delivering lectures through desk top video conferencing EMBRYO scheme as well as take up teaching at least for a semester at any of the campuses of alma mater.
