Press release from: Isabellenhütte Heusler GmbH & Co. KG

Space-saving current and voltage measurement devices

Lithium-ion battery charging and discharging periods pose a great challenge for current and voltage measurement. At electronica, Isabellenhütte Heusler is presenting a sensor module (IMC) tailored to these needs. It can be completely configured according to customer requirements.

For use in hybrid and electric vehicles, precision and component size are crucial factors. The small, and therefore space-saving, IMC (shunt: 20 x 85 mm, board 20 x 40 mm) can perform measurements within a current range of ± 1,500 A at a resolution of 50 mA. The sensor module records voltage within a range of ± 20 V at a resolution of 1 mV.

Measurements are taken via a 100-µ-ohm-shunt, and measured values are logged by the four-channel 16-bit data acquisition system ISA-ASIC. For this pre-calibrated sensor module, customer calibration is no longer necessary. Both supply voltage and SPI signal are electrically isolated.

Isabellenhütte Heusler GmbH & Co. KG is a company rich in tradition. Its roots stretch back over 500 years in metal smelting and processing. First recorded in 1482, the company has been owned by the Heusler family since 1827. Today it ranks among the world's leading manufacturers of alloys for thermocouple, resistance alloys as well as low-impedance precision and power resistors, and is already setting standards in the new sector of precision measurement. In 2002, the ISA-ASIC achieved industry recognition being the first complete and fully integrated measured value acquisition system for electronic battery management in automobiles.

Isabellenhütte receives type examination certification from PTB Braunschweig
As a specialist for shunt measurement technology, Isabellenhütte presents the first shunt-based, calibration law-compliant DC energy reference meter IEM-DCC-500 for charging infrastructure following the successful completion of the type examination. The DC meters are now available for purchase by manufacturers of charging stations and can be integrated into the designs of their applications. The basis of the type examination certification was the successfully conducted metrological measurement series (accuracy class B), the
New FMx shunt family: Small and low-ohmic
New FMx shunt family: Small and low-ohmic
Isabellenhütte has developed a new range of precision resistors in standard sizes with resistances ranging from 1 to 6 mOhm for applications which require small and low-ohmic shunts. In terms of their construction, the components are also less complex than the current ISA-PLAN®resistance families. And yet, they offer the same performance quality: very good long-term stability, a low temperature coefficient, and low thermoelectric voltages. With the FMx shunt family, Isabellenhütte has

BAX shunt: High-performance component for electric vehicles
Electromobility is steadily gaining ground in the automotive industry, and its relevance is increasing accordingly. With the presentation of its new BAX shunt, Isabellenhütte is now taking due account of the requirements that this trend is imposing on components for high-power battery management systems. In the last year, demand for high-performance shunts for use in electric vehicles has skyrocketed. This is down to the pace of development in the electromobility sector.
