New concept to fight dust mite allergy offered as license - new active ingredient from papaya destroys allergens from dust mites

People suffering from allergies can soon find a relief: a new patented Active Ingredient Composition (AIC) has been found by a German biologist which destroys allergens before they reach the human body. The AIC is now offered to interested Indian companies as a license.

Millions of people in India suffer from an allergy caused by dust mites. So far, the only thing people can do against the allergy is either constantly cleaning their houses and remove the dust, a measure which often is not very effective in Indian houses. When finally hit by the allergy with sneezing, itching, red eyes and other effects, the sufferers have to take costly medicaments.

Dust mites are so small that you need a microscope to see them, but they are all around in houses and enjoy the humid Indian climate. Their main food is particles of shed human skin and hair. The average person loses up to over a pound of skin in a year, which provides plenty of mite food, especially in a family. The moisture from sleeping, sweating, and breathing on sheets and bedding, make the bed an ideal place for dust mites to live. These dust mites living all around can cause rhinitis, conjunctivitis, dermatitis, and even asthma.

The dust mites themselves - Dermatophagoides farinae, D. pteronyssinus - are not poisonous and do not bite. The allergic problems arise from their feces. Scientists have found out, that the main causes for allergic reactions in the human body are two enzymes called DER P1 and DER F1 (protease digestive enzymes) which are found in mite feces.

German biologist Gerhard Knapp has found the ideal counter measure against the allergic enzymes (allergens) in feces of dust mites, a new Active Ingredient Composition containing the enzyme auxillase, an excerpt from papain from papaya. The AIC de-naturates and inhibits protein chains. Thus the dust mite proteins (polypeptids) are destroyed and are modified to become mono-, di- and olygopeptides, with the effect that the same proteins cannot be recognized any more as a threat to the body, which itself will show no more allergic reaction.

“You can use a room spray, which we have developed out of the Active Ingredient Composition and spray in to the air and especially onto your bed and mattress”, says Knapp. “A one time use would be sufficient for 14 days, after that, you can spray again.” For humans, of course, the spray is harmless.

The spray can also be used as counter measure against fungal spores from various mildews like Altemaria, Candida albicans, etc. and pollens, which also can lead to serious allergies. It was launched in Germany already in 2006.
