A festival for the senses: The countdown is on for the 14th Berlin Military Music Festival 2008

Clear the stage for the 14th Berlin Military Music Festival to be held on 1 and 2 November 2008. Presenting the best military musicians from eleven nations in a three-hour show, this colorful spectacle will offer the audience a diverse cross-section of the many aspects of international music combined with impressive marching choreographies.

Among the participants this year are professional military bands and formations from Belgium, Canada, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Russia, Sweden, Turkey and USA.

There will be band support from warmer climates: The Central Army Band will represent the Land of the Pharaohs in traditional costumes. The guests from Turkey look back at an even longer tradition than that of the Berlin Military Music Festival: The Bursa Mehter Band will enter the stage in historic costumes and marching formations. The musicians from the Bosporus are the oldest musical formation in the world.

The performances of the Royal Band of the Belgian Air Force and the bands from far north, the Finnish Guard Band and the Band of the Swedish Lifeguard will be very prestigious: Estonia is dispatching its Estonian Defense Forces Band while Russia’s Admiralty Navy Band will travel to Berlin. From Great Britain comes the Minden Band Queen’s Division. The German Army Band 10 from Ulm will be a first-time participant.

The largest event of its kind in Europe is not only a feast for the ears but also sets the standard when it comes to acrobatics and show effects. The performance of The Royal Signals Motorcycle Display Team “The White Helmets” will be a guaranteed highlight. A feast for the eyes will be the representatives of the “Mounties”. The National Ceremonial Troop of the Canadian Mounted Police not only offers the famous red uniforms but also ensures special qualities and surprises during their show with lances. We are also looking forward to the performance of The Ceremonial Guard of the Canadian Forces.

Always welcome are the regular guests such as the 76th US Army Band, the German Navy Band North Sea, and the German Honor Guard as well as the Drill Team of the Guard Battalion of the Department of Defense. As every year, the audience can expect a firework of military music. Hundreds of artists from all nations will perform together during the grandiose mass band finale.
The event is under the patronage of Dr. Franz Josef Jung, the German Minister of Defense. A considerable amount of the net proceeds will be donated to charity.

Traditionally, the event takes place on the first weekend in November. On Saturday, November 1, 2008 there are two performances, one at 2 pm and one at 8 pm. On Sunday, November 2, 2008, we have one performance at 2 pm.

True to the slogan of the Berlin Military Music Festival “A festival that brings people together”, bands from 41 nations from all over the world, from Trinidad Tobago to the Russian Federation, from Finland to Tanzania in Africa, have left lasting impressions in Berlin so far.

Since 2008, the Berlin Military Music Festival has been a member of the “Verband Deutscher Militärmusikveranstalter” (Association of German Military Music Festival Organizers) which unifies the most renowned organizers of military music festivals in Germany. Only the festivals of member organizations may bear the seal of approval „With support of the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces).”
