Hair Club Unveils Unique Technology to Combat Hair Loss Disorders During 24th Annual Conference on Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors
St. Louis, MO (May 2017)- Experts from Hair Club presented new solutions, unveiling unique technology, for those dealing with hair-pulling disorders at the 24th Annual Conference on Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) held in St. Louis in April. The conference has been sponsored by Hair Club for the past 14 years.The TLC Foundation for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors is a donor-supported, non-profit organization devoted to ending the suffering caused by trichotillomania and related body-focused repetitive behaviors. Trichotillomania, often called "TTM" or "trich,” is an obsessive-compulsive related disorder that causes afflicted individuals to pull their hair out, resulting in noticeable bald spots. The condition affects approximately 1 in 50 children, teens and adults.

Nearly 500 guests attended the conference, including clinicians, researchers and those suffering from various disorders. More than 90 workshops, symposiums and seminars on BFRBs, such as trichotillomania, were presented. Attendees learned about the latest research, current and new approaches to treatment and heard inspirational stories of triumph and recovery.
The conference also provided information and support for those with BFRBs and their families, including self-esteem building workshops and the opportunity to meet others who have the same condition.
“This year’s event was exceptional,” said Josephine LoCicero, Hair Club for Kids program coordinator. “It enabled us to connect with so many people who suffer from these disorders, hear their personal stories and struggles, and give them ways to help keep it at bay.”
