European Day of Languages 2008
This year Article 13 will celebrate the European Day of Languages (EDL) by promoting the event in a variety of European languages on our website. We will also raise awareness and encourage our network to join the celebration by placing the logo and link on our email signatures in the lead up to the day.The European Day of Languages (EDL) is a Council of Europe initiative which is held every year on the 26th September. It celebrates language and cultural diversity, an ever increasing aspect of the European Union.
It was first celebrated in 2001 which was the European Year of Languages and aims:
• To alert the public to the importance of language learning
• To increase awareness and appreciation of all languages
• To encourage lifelong language learning
As a cosmopolitan organisation, Article 13 shares the importance of cultural and language diversity and inline with our UNGC commitments, support the promotion of learning and appreciation.
