Two Berlin Sculptors
Bernhard Heiliger and Waldemar Grzimek at Ketterer KunstBerlin, 3 September 2008 (kk) - “Sculpture is the best commentary an artist can provide on his painting,” Pablo Picasso once said. Viewed in that light, there is currently a lot to find out about Bernhard Heiliger and Waldemar Grzimek in Berlin. Ketterer Kunst is showing more than 30 works on paper by the two artists as well as seven pieces of their sculpture that form the nucleus of the exhibition.
“I am really delighted that we are in a position in this exhibition to contrast the different approaches taken by two well-known sculptors, both of whom were at the height of their creative powers in Berlin in the 1960s-1980s,” thus Robert Ketterer, owner of Ketterer Kunst.
Whereas Bernhard Heiliger enjoyed experimenting with new materials such as aluminium, plastic, wood along with marble and steel to produce abstract work from 1969, Waldemar Grzimek’s vehicle for expression is the figurative.
The exhibition of works for sale in the Ketterer Kunst rooms at Fasanenstrasse 70 in Berlin runs until 4 October 2008. Prices for works by Heiliger and Grzimek on paper range from € 250-€ 6000 and from € 4000-€ 30 000 for sculpture. Opening hours are: Monday through Friday 11 am - 7 pm and Saturday 11 am - 4 pm.
Since it was founded in 1954, Ketterer Kunst has been firmly established in the front ranks of auction houses dealing in art and rare books with headquarters in Munich and a branch in Hamburg. Gallery rooms in Berlin as well as representatives in Heidelberg, Krefeld and New York have contributed substantially to the success. Ketterer Kunst has further rounded off its portfolio by acquiring the prestigious Ernest Rathenau Verlag, New York/Munich. In addition, exhibitions, themed and benefit auctions for charity as well as online auctions are regular events at Ketterer Kunst.
