Press release from: SatPro Int. Ltd. & Co. KG

First type approval for LRIT

The units of the SatPro Int. Ltd & Co KG now received the first type approval ever issued by the Germanischer Lloyd (GL) for the LRIT system mandatory for commercial shipping from 2009 on. The german Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) already granted an acknowledgement of conformance some months ago.
As there are currently no further requests for type approvals for LRIT with the GL, the LRIT units of the SatPro company are the the only authorized devices available at the moment.
These units especially feature the high versatility, in addition there´s no need for an external technician´s employment, programming can be easily made via “air” and shipping companies obtain an all-time overview of all positions of their fleet via the optional internet access.
Another essential advantage might be the price which starts at 499,-€ (+VAT). Unlike to upgrading existing INMARSAT-C units there´s no need for a conformance test which would not only effect additional costs but also involve a significant organisational effort.
For a number of flag states SatPro already is a household name, as there have been
test-ASP-appointments already issued for Antigua and Barbuda. This is soon to be expected from further flagstates.
Right now many major shipping companies started to equip their fleets with SatPro systems and declare themselves very satisfied with the provided technical capabilities.
