Press release from: Caltech Y

Pasadena, Calif.— On October 10, 2008, the Caltech Y will host its first Annual Golf Tournament and Auction at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena to fund its volunteer service, leadership and advocacy programs. With support from friends, community members, business leaders, and the event chair Don Brown, retired general manager at Brookside, this event will help raise needed funds for an organization that has served the Pasadena and Caltech communities for over 90 years.

The Caltech Y is an independent non-profit organization formally affiliated with the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. Founded by students in 1916, the Y was organized to provide extracurricular activities planned and implemented by students as an opportunity to learn leadership skills and discover themselves. The mission of today’s Y remains the same—to provide opportunities that will prepare students to become engaged, responsible citizens of the world. The Y seeks to broaden students’ worldviews, raise social, ethical, and cultural awareness through teamwork, community engagement, activism, and leadership.

Come join the Y on the golf course and/or for the dinner and auction following. There will be great prizes for the golfers and amazing auction items, such as a Tiffany & Co. watch and a Napa Valley vacation package, for everyone to bid on throughout the evening. This outpouring of support from the community will benefit the programs that have come to represent the Caltech Y’s commitment to Pasadena and Caltech. Students grow and become responsible citizens through programs like Make-A-Difference Day, Alternative Spring Break, and the RISE tutoring program to help Pasadena Unified School District students in math and science. Please help the Y continue these great traditions.

Don Brown, and members of the Golf Tournament committee look forward to seeing you join Caltech staff, family, and alumni, as well as many local community members, on October 10th, 2008. This is a great networking opportunity for recent graduates, entrepreneurs and golf enthusiasts, to mingle and get connected with the Caltech Y that has made a world of difference since 1916.
