Automotive Market Report: Opportunities in Polish Aftermarket

07-10-2008 04:51 PM CET | Business, Economy, Finances, Banking & Insurance

Press release from: Globis GmbH Berlin

Berlin, July 2008: The Polish market for new cars has reversed the decline of previous years. New cars, together with a massive inflow of used cars, are expanding the Polish car fleet rapidly. This situation generates opportunities especially in the automotive aftermarket. Globis GmbH, a German consulting company, has analyzed the Polish automotive market in a comprehensive research report.

With almost 40 mio. inhabitants Poland is the largest market in CEE (Central and Eastern Europe). Real GDP has been growing at around 5% and wages are also growing continuously. With the membership in the EU and corresponding reduction of trade barriers and duties, Poland was flooded with used cars, especially from Germany. In the course of this inflow of cheap cars, new car sales declined heavily but recovered strongly in 2007.

„With new car sales increasing and the continuous inflow of used cars, Poland’s car park will grow at a rate of 4% p.a. until 2010“, according to Felix Kuesell, managing director of Globis who released the report. With only 35% of cars being younger than 10 years the aftermarket is a real hotspot. Globis estimates a 5% increase of the spare parts market p.a.

Also, for some investors Poland could be an interesting production base. Especially for suppliers who want to enter the EU, Poland is a good starting point. However, according to Kuesell, any decision to locate in Poland needs to be investigated carefully. Wages have been grown continuously and are among the highest in CEE and due to high demand there is also a lack of qualified personal. Some Polish suppliers are already venturing further East into the Ukraine to reduce cost.

The market report„Polish Automotive Market: Passenger Cars, Suppliers and Aftermarket, 2007-2010” of Globis analyses in depth current developments of the Polsih automotive market. It covers 85 pages and includes over table and figures. The report is available at 890 € and can be ordered directly at Globis (for more information, visit the Globis website www.globis-berlin.de).
