SteelEye expands Windows offerings for continuous data

High availability experts debut LifeKeeper for SAP on Windows, release updates that speed WAN replication

Palo Alto, California – 13th February 2006 - SteelEye Technology® Inc., provider of award-winning data protection and application availability solutions for Linux and Windows, today announced the release of three significant offerings aimed at Windows environments. In addition to announcing general availability of LifeKeeper™ for Windows® version 5.2, the company today debuted LifeKeeper Protection Suite for SAP on Windows as well as a new version of LifeKeeper Data Replication for Windows that greatly enhances replication speed.

LifeKeeper Data Replication v5.2 delivers the fastest possible replication speeds in order to ensure complete and continuous data protection. This is made possible through the utilisation of software techniques that assure a constant and optimal flow of data across any wide-area connection, regardless of latency. By achieving over 90% bandwidth utilisation without the need for hardware accelerators or compression devices, LifeKeeper Data Replication provides the highest WAN throughput of any software-based replication solution on the market today.

In order to manage the accelerated network traffic, per-mirror replication throttles, also called speed limits, have been implemented to provide administrators complete control over cross-site bandwidth usage.

“With most other offerings, you have to buy separate hardware accelerators to achieve the same performance levels that our software-only solution delivers,” said Bob Williamson, Vice President of Products for SteelEye. “For 20% of the cost, our customers get the same or better performance across their WANs as well as the option to add high availability clusters for comprehensive application protection.”

Leveraging experience gained from years of delivering high availability solutions for SAP, SteelEye has also released LifeKeeper Protection Suite for SAP on Windows. Providing monitoring and recovery for the entire SAP application stack, including core components such as the Central Instance, Enqueue and Message services, and the underlying databases, SAP administrators can eliminate downtime from both planned and unplanned outages.

“SteelEye is a winner of the prestigious SAP Pinnacle Award in recognition for its special achievement in delivering proven high availability clustering solutions to support the mySAP Business Suite family of business solutions,” continued Bob Williamson. “Bringing this solution from Linux to Windows offers SAP customers a wider choice in high availability solutions and allows them to expand the use of LifeKeeper to protect more of their critical business functions.”
