StarForce Protects Files on USB Flash Drives

Press release from: StarForce

unauthorized copying and distribution, presents a copy protection solution for the content, distributed on USB flash drives. In this case a user can get access to protected files only when a USB device, containing a special digital key, is connected to the computer. This method allows to control number of file copies while the files can be used on different computers – you only need to insert an original USB flash drive.

USB flash drives have become another ‘binding object’ in the StarForce product portfolio targeting to replace CD and DVD discs which are losing their popularity and most modern laptops even are not equipped with drives to open CDs and DVDs. The main competing copy protection technology is to provide a serial number and activate access over the Internet. But in this case the publisher limits a number of user devices – as a rule you can activate one or two computers that can be inconvenient. Besides when a USB key is used you do not need Internet – a protected application can work for example in an enterprise local network.

“To keep our leading position in copy protection on the global market we have set a target: to cover most popular platforms and objects to bind. For a long time, we had this gap with USB flash drives and now we closed it”, says Natalia Yashenkova, Head of Marketing and PR at StarForce. “To distinguish our product we offer to use any USB flash drive you like. Our clients can take a branded USB flash drive, protect it with the StarForce solution and get two protections in one: protection against analysis and reverse engineering and anti-piracy protection”.

At the moment this protection method is available for software applications (executable files) and multimedia content (video, audio, HTML, etc.). For more details, please visit our site http://www.star-force.com/solutions/usb-flash-protection/.
