The World Environmental Day in Article 13’s office

06-13-2008 10:35 AM CET | Energy & Environment

Press release from: Article 13

Article 13 commemorated The World Environmental Day on 5th June 2008. This year’s slogan was ‘Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy’.

Article 13, as a signatory of UN Global Compact (UNGC) celebrated the World Environmental Day. We contributed to this years slogan ‘Kick the Habit’ by offsetting one tonne of carbon for every hundred visitors to Article 13’s website - equaling 4 tonnes This was done as part of the ‘Cut out a Kilo of CO2’ campaign by Carbon Neutral Company.

Secondly, we have planted trees in the Article 13 garden, to provide a way of instantly benefiting the local environment and contributing to urban regeneration. We believe that even these small actions contribute a positive impact.

What is more, all Article 13 staff had a ‘carbon free lunch’ on the 5th June 2008. All electronic devices were switched off for one hour while Article 13’s employees enjoyed lunch in the garden amongst the newly planted trees. This is also indicative of our link between environmental protection and staff well-being.
Neela Bettridge, director of Article 13 said “Our lunch on the World Environmental Day was a great opportunity to enjoy each others company, relax for one hour in the gorgeous weather in our garden and save some electricity.”

Note: World Environment Day is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action. It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Another resolution, adopted by the General Assembly on the same day, led to the creation of UNEP.
