Suzanne Ervine Elected Vice President of the Alliance of Legal Document Assistant Professionals

Suzanne Ervine, a registered Legal Document Assistant (LDA) in San Diego, was elected Vice President of the Alliance of Legal Document Assistant Professionals (ALDAP) (www.aldap.com) at its annual meeting on May 30 in Santa Ana, California.

ALDAP is a state-wide, non-profit association dedicated to furthering the legal document assistant (LDA) and paralegal professions. Ervine is a co-founder of ALDAP, and has served on the Board of Directors in many capacities, including Treasurer, Membership Director and Director of Communications.

Ervine owns and operates Red Sky Legal (www.redskylegal.com) in Santee. She brings to ALDAP more than a decade of experience managing non-profit organizations. Following a successful career in philanthropy, she transitioned to the legal field in 2001. In 2006 she left her position as a corporate paralegal and registered as an LDA. Ervine is registered as an LDA in San Diego and San Luis Obispo Counties. She holds an ABA Approved Paralegal Certificate and is a Certified Notary Signing Agent. Ervine also currently serves as ALDAP’s acting Director of Communications.

“Consumers are becoming more sophisticated, handling their own legal and business matters and at the same time, the cost of attorney fees continues to increase dramatically, making it difficult, if not impossible for consumers to afford legal counsel,” said Kathleen Mountjoy, ALDAP President.

“The legal access crisis is a long-standing and severe problem and it may never be resolved. The courts and our legal processes can be confusing and many consumers turn to document preparers to help with their legal affairs, creating a catalyst for change,” Mountjoy added. “The proliferation of self-represented litigants has created an unprecedented demand for quality non-attorney legal service providers.”
