direct/ Alfesca: SIF, parent company of Lyons Seafoods and Farne, changes name to Alfesca
Hafnarfjordur, 9 February 2006SIF Ltd has changed its name to Alfesca (ICEX: A), and at the same time adopted a new logo. Whereas the old name was rooted in traditional sales of seafood products, the new name and logo have been adopted to reflect the extensive transformation that has taken place in the company´s activities and suggest a modern and progressive food producer that aims at becoming a leader in the manufacture and sale of ready-to-eat products in its selected product categories in Europe.
The name Alfesca is made up from alpha, the first letter in the Greek alphabet, and Latin words festivus (festive) and esca (food). The company´s new logo is clear and direct, with a concise reference to the company´s leading position given in the interplay of the letter A and the number 1.
Jakob Sigurdsson, CEO-President of Alfesca, says the company has undergone huge changes over the past two years, and that it can be described today as a new company that is well prepared for further growth. "In the middle of 2004 we took the strategic decision to put our main efforts into the production and sale of value-added products in Europe and to shed the company´s traditional activities in the sale and marketing of seafood," he says. "We had taken over the British company Lyons Seafoods in 2003 and late in 2004 we embarked on the purchase of the French food giant Labeyrie Group, which operates in three European countries. In connection with these changes, companies that were not involved in SIF Group´s future core activities were divested."
Alfesca is a product leader on its markets. Its main products are smoked salmon, duck and goose products, including foie gras, chilled shellfish, blini and various snacks and spreads. Alfesca´s products are sold under the brands Lyons, Farne, Labeyrie, Blini, Delpierre and Skandia and it also has a strong position in manufacturing for sale under supermarkets´ own brands.
Alfesca´s strength lies in its market position as a leader in selected categories in one of the world´s most developed consumer markets and the combination of the skills of the individual subsidiaries.
The company currently operates 12 production plants in France, Britain and Spain, these being its key market countries. Alfesca´s headquarters are in Iceland; its subsidiaries are Lyons Seafoods and Farne in Britain, Labeyrie, Blini and SIF France in France, Vensy in Spain, and Christiansen Partner in Norway. Alfesca employs about 3,500 people, and its estimated annual turnover is about EUR 600 million.
