Formula One news: Barrichello says his retirement is still a long way off

adrivo.com - No one can say for certain that Sunday's Turkish GP really will be Rubens Barrichello's 257th Formula One race. "There are many alternative futures but I have decided that this will indeed be my 257th appearance on the grid," says Barrichello. "And if anyone has any objections, they're invited to join me in celebrating the next two or three races after that. That's the way we Brazilians do things."

Most of the journalists present at the press conference were obsessed with the imminent career milestone in Turkey. The soon-to-be world record holder was repeatedly asked to field the same questions - and to receive the same plaudits. "But don't you feel it brings bad luck when people congratulate you in advance?" asked Motorsport Magazin adrivo.com. To which the Brazilian replied: "I'm not a great believer in luck." The forthcoming event was giving him "good vibrations", but reassuringly not when he was in his car! "When I'm behind the wheel, it's just a normal race weekend like any other."

On Sunday, Rubens Barrichello is due to pass the 257 GP mark. It's now almost 16 years since his F1 debut for Jordan back in 1993. "But I'm not dwelling on all the things that have happened in the intervening years," stressed Barrichello in conversation with adrivo.com. "I might have been a bit more sentimental if this were my last race, but the day I retire is still a long way off."
