Handheld FeNO breath analyzers are designed around "point-of-care testing" and "convenient follow-up," targeting settings such as respiratory clinics, allergy specialists, and home use. The NO breath from the UK's Bedfont Scientific is described as a nitric oxide device for asthma diagnosis and management, emphasizing its completely non-invasive and simple operation suitable for both adult and pediatric patients.
In terms of product type, currently Desktop is the largest segment, hold a share of 83.4%.
FeNO is available in both online and offline testing methods. Both online and offline methods have the same requirements for pressure and flow rate, both requiring an expiratory pressure of 5 cmH2O (1 cmH2O = 0.098 kPa) thus closing the soft palate and avoiding upper airway effects.
The expiratory flow rate was 50 mL/s, which was maintained within a flow rate range of ±10%. Exhalation time was at least 4 s (≤12 years, child mode), and offline method could be used in children aged 3 years and above if they could not cooperate with the online method for FeNO determination.
The online method requires one breath exhalation to be completed for at least 6 s (>12 years, adult mode), while the offline method is a multi-breath measurement with no requirement for exhalation time, and adults can exhale multiple times until sampling is complete.
