Solar power from garage roofs - Two solar power plants in Koethen set new standards

With the successful completion of the overall project in January 2026, TnT Neue Energien GmbH is continuing to drive forward the energy transition in Saxony-Anhalt. In recent years, several solar power plants have been built on the roofs of two garage complexes in Koethen, which now have a total installed capacity of over 3.3 megawatts peak. The plants are operated by Solaris Zwei GmbH & Co. KG from Dresden.

The first construction phase on the garage complex at Anhaltische Strasse 21 went online on March 30, 2021. With a total output of almost 2.8 megawatts peak, the plant is one of the largest solar power projects on garage complexes in Germany - and, according to the operators, is likely to be the largest garage complex with photovoltaics in the country. Nearly 1,000 garages were equipped with state-of-the-art solar modules after all the roofs were renovated and fitted with modern trapezoidal sheet metal roofing. The electricity generated is fed entirely into the public grid and contributes to the regional supply of renewable energy.

The second step followed almost within sight of the garage complex on Hohenkoethener Strasse: there, another PV system with a capacity of 398.56 kWp was commissioned on January 15, 2025, after the roofs and roof drainage had also been professionally renovated and repaired. The final phase of the project, with an additional 151.06 kWp, was completed in January 2026, bringing the total capacity of the project in Koethen to 3.3 MWp.

"With our projects in Koethen, we are demonstrating that even complex roof landscapes can be used economically and technically efficiently for solar power - without any new land sealing."

The two systems feed almost 3 million kilowatt hours of green electricity into the Mitnetz Strom mbH grid every year. This corresponds to the average annual consumption of around 1,000 two-person households and saves more than 2,000 tons of CO? per year.

With the projects in Koethen, TnT Neue Energien is sending a clear signal for the regional energy transition and proving that "the future made in Saxony" is not just a claim, but a living reality.
