Capitol Homes Wins Northwest ENERGY STAR Homes Idaho Builder

PORTLAND, Ore. — APRIL 10, 2008 — The second annual Northwest ENERGY STAR Homes award winners have been announced recognizing industry leaders in the high-performance building industry throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. Awards were granted to outstanding partners who have helped establish a significant presence for ENERGY STAR qualified new homes within the Pacific Northwest.

Capitol Building Company, Eagle, Idaho won the award for Idaho Builder of the Year. “Capitol has been dedicated to building high performance homes for years because we felt it was the right thing to do for our customers and for our planet. It’s easy to see how important this commitment is when you consider that our company’s energy efficiency initiative resulted in an overall savings to our clients last year equal to planting 14.5 acres of trees or eliminating the emissions from 101 vehicles. This is just the beginning!” said Tyler Gilman, Director of Sales and Marketing, Capitol Building Company.

During 2007 Capitol Building Company constructed 38 ENERGY STAR-certified homes within the cities of Boise, Eagle, Meridian and Star. As members of the 100% Idaho ENERGY STAR Partnership group, they support other committed ENERGY STAR builders by sharing ideas and supporting high-performance building at a local level. “Capitol Building Company has demonstrated a remarkable level of commitment to our program,” said David Hetherington, Program Manager for Northwest ENERGY STAR Homes. “We are pleased to honor Capitol Building Company for all their efforts in making the Pacific Northwest a model for high performance home building.”

Additional awards were given to:
Regional Home Builder of the Year: New Tradition Homes, Vancouver , WA
Regional Development of the Year: McCall Development, Billings , MT
Regional Verifier of the Year: O’Brien & Company, Seattle , WA
Washington Large Home Builder: New Tradition Homes, Vancouver , WA
Washington Small Home Builder: Scott Homes, Inc., Olympia , WA
Oregon Large Home Builder: Palmer Homes , Bend , OR
Oregon Small Home Builder: Vision Homes, Inc., Medford , OR
Montana Builder of the Year: Kingdom Builders, Missoula , MT

In 2007, 2,658 Northwest ENERGY STAR Homes were built in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. ENERGY STAR qualified homes deliver the features today’s home buyers are looking for, with the additional benefits of comfort, energy and cost savings — all by employing a combination of energy-efficient construction practices and high-efficiency equipment. This increase in energy efficiency lowers homeowners’ energy bills, as they save on heating and cooling costs, lighting, and everyday use of major appliances like dishwashers. About 25 percent of all U.S. carbon emissions come from homes, so making homes more energy efficient is an important step in reducing the emissions that contribute to global warming.
