Connecticut Author Releases Keepsake Valentine's Picture Book for Children

Connecticut, USA - Connecticut children's author Lauryn Alyssa Wendus, founder of Oli Kids Co. and author of The Adventures of Oliver Poons series, has released a new Valentine's picture book designed to be given in place of a traditional card.

After a busy year running her marketing agency, Next Door Creations, Wendus decided to create something lighter and just for kids as this past December approached. On a bit of a whim, she launched EmailsFromSanta.com, sending personalized holiday messages to more than 200 families.

That unexpected project reminded her how meaningful small, imaginative moments can be for children. Wanting to keep that spirit going beyond Christmas, Wendus created A Ping of Magic, a home for whimsical notes such as tooth fairy messages, leprechaun letters, and birthday surprises.

As Valentine's Day came into view, Wendus felt that a digital note wasn't quite enough.

"I've always loved the idea of giving a book instead of a card," she says. "Many of my children's books are often gifted this way, especially at baby showers, with a handwritten note inside that becomes part of the keepsake."

That idea became A Strawberry Valentine Story.

The picture book follows a little mouse who discovers something red, shiny, and shaped like a heart. Believing it must be very important, he carries it carefully everywhere he goes, even when a curious bird seems to think it's something else entirely. The story centers on a small misunderstanding, shared attention, and the warmth that comes from treating something with care.

Unlike most seasonal books, A Strawberry Valentine Story includes a dedicated To / From page and space for a handwritten note, making it a Valentine meant to be read and kept long after February 14th has passed.

Through Oli Kids Co., Wendus creates books and learning tools that support early literacy while honoring children's natural sense of wonder.
