Richmond, VA - As Black History Month calls communities to move beyond reflection and toward meaningful action, Richmond-based thriller author Anthony P. Jones is inviting the public to do just that-by supporting Black artists who have persevered, created, and refused to give up on their voice.

After more than 30 years as an author and 3 published novels with 9 ready to be published, Jones is emerging at a pivotal moment in his career-one that represents not only personal achievement, but a broader breakthrough for Black authors in the thriller genre.

Jones has long challenged the narrow expectations placed on Black writers. While repeatedly encouraged to "write more urban," he has remained committed to his identity as a thriller author, crafting stories rooted in suspense, intellect, history, and global stakes. His journey mirrors the realities explored in the recent film American Fiction , which highlights how Black writers are still critiqued and constrained in ways that limit authentic creative expression.

"I am a thriller author," Jones says. "That is my voice, and I refuse to abandon it."

In recognition of Black History Month, Jones is calling on Richmond-area media, cultural leaders, and residents to honor Black history through action-by showing up, supporting local Black artists, and investing in spaces where creative freedom is allowed to flourish.

That action takes form on April 8, 2026, at 5:00 PM, when Jones will host a major literary launch and immersive cultural experience at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA).

This is not a traditional book launch.

The April event is designed as an exclusive, elegant evening at the museum, where guests step into a fine-arts setting and experience storytelling and art as it unfolds live around them. Attendees will enjoy cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, curated artistic moments, and the opportunity to meet Anthony P.
