UN World Interfaith Harmony Week - Houston

Weeklong Observance Featuring, Artist Marlon Hall, Highlights Dialogue, Service, and Hospitality
February 1 to 8, 2026

HOUSTON, TX - IM Houston (formerly Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston) will serve as the official host for UN World Interfaith Harmony Week, February 1 to 8, 2026. The week invites people of many faiths and beliefs to come together through shared meals, service, and conversation to strengthen understanding and cooperation across cultures and traditions.

UN World Interfaith Harmony Week was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2010 and is observed annually during the first week of February. The global observance encourages communities to focus on shared values, including compassion, dignity, and love of neighbor, while creating opportunities for dialogue and relationship-building across faith traditions.

"UN World Interfaith Harmony Week reminds us that harmony is not abstract. It is practiced," said Sheroo Mukhtiar, President and CEO of IM Houston. "When people gather at the same table, serve side by side, and listen to one another's stories, trust is built and community is strengthened."

IM Houston's 2026 theme, AWE: Art of Welcoming Everyone! Building Harmony through Hospitality, centers on the practice of welcome as a pathway to deeper connection and mutual respect.

Houston's observance will include several public events designed to foster meaningful engagement:

• Opening Dinner and Immersive Dialogue Experience on Sunday, February 1 from 5-8 pm, featuring nationally recognized artist and cultural anthropologist Marlon Hall. The evening uses an intentional shared meal, storytelling, and conversation to explore identity, lived experience, and human connection. Participants are invited to bring a small personal artifact that reflects their story or tradition. https://youtu.be/5EvW62XGpHM

• Service Projects facilitated by Volunteer Houston, on Thursday, February 5. Participants will engage in hands-on service projects that put shared values into action and support local nonprofit partners.

• Weekend of Welcome: Open Doors, Open Hearts, from February 6 to 8, during which houses of worship across Greater Houston and Galveston County will open their doors to guests, offering opportunities for learning, hospitality, and relationship-building.

Events are open to the public, with opportunities for individuals, congregations, and organizations to participate, partner, or sponsor.

More information, including event registration and sponsorship details, is available at imgh.org/harmony.
