Cambridge attorney urges communities to focus on consistency, access, and everyday responsibility
Anthony Galluccio, land use and permitting attorney and law partner at Galluccio & Watson LLP, is using a recent in-depth interview to raise awareness around three issues he believes quietly shape the health of communities: support for paediatric cancer care, access to youth sports, and public understanding of land use and permitting.

Speaking candidly about his career and long-standing community work, Galluccio stressed that progress in all three areas depends less on large gestures and more on steady involvement and consistent acts of service, "It does not come from speeches," Galluccio said. "It comes from people showing up consistently and doing what they said they would do."

Why Paediatric Cancer Support Still Matters

Each year, an estimated 15,000 children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States, making it the leading cause of disease-related death among children. While survival rates have improved, many families face long treatment cycles, emotional strain, and financial pressure.

Galluccio founded Ashley's Angels in 2009 to support paediatric cancer care through direct hospital partnerships. The organisation has contributed more than $350,000 to institutions including Dana-Farber and paediatric hospitals in the Dominican Republic.

"When a child is sick, the whole family is affected," Galluccio said. "You don't forget that, and you don't walk away from it."

Youth Sports as a Community Health Issue

Galluccio has coached youth baseball and football for over 20 years, including more than 450 baseball games as a head coach. He views youth sport as prevention rather than recreation.

National data shows that fewer than one in four children meet recommended daily physical activity levels, with access gaps widest in lower-income communities.

"Sports give kids structure before problems start," Galluccio said. "They teach discipline, routine, and self-respect.Coaches play a precious role outside the home that should be cherished."

He encourages adults to support youth sports not only by coaching, but by volunteering, attending local games, and advocating for safe recreational spaces.

"You don't need a title to make a difference," he said. "You just need to stay involved, you will get back far more than you put in".

Understanding Land Use and Permitting

As a land use and permitting attorney, Galluccio also highlighted the importance of public engagement in local development decisions. Zoning and permitting processes directly affect housing supply, healthcare access, and institutional growth, yet often receive little attention until conflict arises. My trademark is public engagement including knocking doors, " Just like in politics permitting is retail. It's not about press releases but building consensus one person at a time".

"Permitting isn't about shortcuts," Galluccio said. "It's about preparation, trust, and respecting the process."

He makes sure residents attend local meetings and learn how planning decisions are made in their communities. Residents not showing up is not a win." No one should feel blindsided ".

"When people understand the process and participate, communities function better," he said.

A Call to Everyday Action

Rather than urging donations or policy changes, Galluccio's message focuses on leadership, responsibility and daily habits.

"Every day is like a game," he said. "You prepare, you show up, and you execute. One thing you do control is your own work ethic and commitment"

What individuals can do:

*
Support verified paediatric cancer charities or local hospitals

*
Volunteer or assist with youth sports programmes

*
Stay informed and engaged in local zoning and permitting discussions

*
Commit to small, consistent actions that support others

"Helping people doesn't require permission," Galluccio said. "It requires commitment."
