The product, EHC® (a composite of carbon, potassium permanganate, and buffers), was used in a full-scale remediation at a former industrial site owned by a multinational manufacturing corporation. The in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) treatment was applied to a dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) source area contaminated with chlorinated solvents like trichloroethene (TCE). The remediation contractor, Geosyntec Consultants, designed and installed the treatment using direct-push technology to inject over 500 cubic yards of the reagent into the subsurface. The total cost for the EHC® material and its application for this specific source zone treatment amounted to approximately $120,000, or $240 per cubic yard of treated subsurface volume, successfully reducing source mass and groundwater concentrations to meet regulatory closure goals.
