African Drumming Awaken Ancestors to Support New Jamaican, Vegan & Vegetarian Eatery on Newburghs’ Restauran

African percussionist Kazi Oliver will wake the spirits at the recently opened Calabash Restaurant. Offering authentic Caribbean cuisine to locals and people visiting the historic district in the City of Newburgh, Calabash Restaurant 69 Liberty Street Newburgh NY is located amongst a row of a number of other specialized eateries. Kazi’s performing at the grand opening will be an interactive display of cultural awakening of the ancestors. His performances are entertaining, educational and fun. Calabash is not just about Caribbean dining, it is a family friendly, cozy, yet moderately priced restaurant with counter seating, eclectic tables and chairs, with an event space complete with dance floor (perfect for groups or parties). Imported from the Caribbean the veteran chef prepares the dishes with only the freshest ingredients. Calabash offers just as tasty vegan and vegetarian dishes.

A family owned business; co-owners Rudolph and Deborah Duffus opened their first restaurant on Broadway in the city of Newburgh in 2015. Rudy, affectionately named, was raised in the countryside of Jamaica West Indies his parents were farmers, he be began cooking at age 7. He has been a vegan for most of his life, but cooks all types of meat to Caribbean authenticity. Rudy has been cooking professionally for the past 30 years, including as a personal chef for the owner of a pipeline company. He traveled with the company on land and sea, providing 24-hour service preparing meals for the owner and workers. Deborah oversees all things front end, she states, “America is a place where dreams are made and we are prime examples”. “We are excited about the many different that come in to enjoy our food.
