GR2L delivers measurable Scope 3 CO2 reductions through argon recycling technology

GR2L enables major Scope 3 CO2 reductions for advanced materials manufacturer Metalysis through ArgonØTM recycling deployment
GR2L, a UK Cleantech company specialising in the recovery, purification and recycle of purge gases used in the photovoltaics, microelectronics and the material processing industry sectors, has secured a strategic contract to install the world-leading, flagship point of use, argon recycling system, ArgonØTM.
GR2L's patented ArgonØTM system allows manufacturers to recover and recycle argon gas at the point of use, drastically reducing both carbon emissions and operational costs.
The ArgonØ is a world first, point of use argon gas recycling system to recycle argon purge gas. Originally developed to support the solar photovoltaics and microelectronics market, the project with Metalysis is a strategic step towards expansion into advanced manufacturing and the materials processing sector.
Metalysis is the global leader in the manufacture of critical mineral metal and alloy powders, including lightweight and refractory high-entropy materials for space, aerospace, defence, and other advanced manufacturing sectors.
Using large amounts of argon to create an inert atmosphere throughout its patented production process and across all of its reactor sizes, Metalysis wanted to further their already robust sustainability practises with the addition of GR2L's ArgonØTM system.
It has been confirmed that this system will result in recycling 95% of the argon used, expected to save Metalysis 350 tonnes of argon each year. The resulting reduction in energy used to process new Argon and the cost of transporting it, will mean annual savings for Metalysis of 1000 tonnes of Scope 3 CO2.
Every tonne of argon that Metalysis purchase includes a minimum of 2-4 tonnes of Scope 3 CO2 equivalent. The ArgonØTM recycling system has an energy footprint of less than 10% of conventional gas recycling systems.
