High above Merano lies a place of vastness and tranquility
When the last rays of sunshine disappear behind the South Tyrolean mountains in the evening, a spectacle of light and silence unfolds above Merano. Opposite, the Vigiljoch and Mutspitze mountains stand out, with the striking peaks of the Texel Group behind them. In between, the view opens up towards Vinschgau, while down in the valley the lights of the spa town of Merano begin to twinkle. Right here, on the sunny slopes of Schenna, lies the Hotel Hohenwart. A retreat above everyday life Even the journey up to Schenna feels like a transition: with every bend in the road, a piece of everyday life is left behind in the valley below. This impression continues in the hotel itself. Without fanfare or ostentatious luxury, the hotel welcomes its guests with tranquility, friendliness, and natural warmth. The Hohenwart is not a classic hotel complex, but an ensemble that has grown over the years, consisting of the main building, Haus Christine, and Haus Traube, connected by corridors and characterized by an atmosphere that is more reminiscent of a home than a hotel.Space, warmth, and panoramic views in the VistaSpa A special place in the hotel is the VistaSpa - also the highest building in the hotel. High above the Merano basin, it offers a sweeping view over Schenna to Dorf Tirol. In the panorama sauna, the warm scents of tonka beans, honey, and baked apples mingle with the clear mountain air. The heart of the adults-only area is the heated saltwater pool on the roof: 34 degrees Celsius water, between the infinity pool and whirlpool, with an unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains. Especially in the evening hours, when the air cools and the lights in the valley come on, this place unfolds a special magic.
The offer is complemented by additional saunas, steam baths, and spacious relaxation rooms that deliberately leave room for slowing down. Time loses its meaning here--reading, lying down, and doing nothing are the focus. Space to arrive
The rooms and suites also follow this principle. Spacious floor plans, plenty of light, and a harmonious sense of space characterize all categories. The design ranges from classic Alpine to modern minimalist, always featuring local woods and warm colors. The view extends either out into the countryside or down to Merano--a quiet luxury that accompanies the start of the day as well as the evening. Families welcome, tranquility preserved
While tranquility dominates in the VistaSpa, the FamilySpa area offers space for exercise and time together. Indoor and outdoor pools, a baby pool, and a 25-meter outdoor pool in the garden provide variety. A fitness room, playroom, and outdoor playground round out the offerings. The hotel thus succeeds in striking a balance between a retreat for those seeking peace and quiet and a comfortable vacation destination for families.
Nature and city right on your doorstep Another advantage of the hotel is that your vacation begins right on your doorstep. Walks along historic irrigation channels, hikes through chestnut groves and vineyards, or trips to Merano are easy to organize. Thanks to the bus stop in the immediate vicinity and the South Tyrol Guest Pass, you can leave your car behind. Merano with its arcades, Passer promenade, and Kurhaus is just as easy to reach as the famous Tappeinerweg trail or the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. Schenna Castle and the village center of Schenna are also just a few minutes' walk away. Cuisine with a regional touch The Hotel Hohenwart combines South Tyrolean roots with Mediterranean lightness in its cuisine. The breakfast buffet focuses on regional products and freshly prepared egg dishes from the show kitchen. In the afternoon, a classic Marende with hot and cold dishes and cakes invites you to take a break. In the evening, a multi-course menu with various options, including vegetarian, is accompanied by South Tyrolean wines or a beer from the family-owned Pfefferlechner brewery in Lana.
A house with history and character The hotel is run by the third generation of the Mair family. Many employees have been part of the hotel for years, some for decades - a fact that has a noticeable impact on the atmosphere. What was once a small guesthouse has become a 4-star superior hotel that has not forgotten its roots.
The Hotel Hohenwart is aimed at guests who are looking for peace and quiet, enjoy being outdoors, appreciate wellness, and want to enjoy the proximity to Merano. The combination of location, view, spa, cuisine, and genuine hospitality makes a stay here an experience that lingers - often long after check-out.
