Lithium Niobate on Insulator (LNOI) is a thin single crystal LN film on a SiO2 layer deposited on a LN-substrate with a refractive index difference of 0.7. Such a structure is named Lithium Niobate-On. Insulator or LNOI to emphasize the analogy to SOI.
Lithium Tantalate on Insulator (LTOI) is a type of thin film wafer material that has piezoelectric properties. It is an anisotropic crystal with different refractive indices in different directions. It can be seen from the measurement result that LTOI exhibits a low birefringence characteristic. In the near-infrared region, the refractive index difference is ∼0.01.
Lithium niobate thin film is a thin film made of lithium niobate (LiNbO3) material, which has many excellent properties and has been widely used in the fields of electronics, optics, and communication. Lithium niobate is used to produce high-performance devices such as high-speed electro-optic modulators and high-performance acoustic filters, which are applied in data centers, long-distance data transmission, mobile phones, base stations, etc., to meet the high bandwidth and high-frequency RF market requirements of the next generation of wireless networks. Lithium tantalate thin film (LTOI) is a multifunctional crystal material that integrates piezoelectric, ferroelectric, pyroelectric, acousto-optic, and electro-optic properties. Lithium tantalate is a positive uniaxial crystal with ferroelectric properties, widely used in fields such as acousto-optic, electro-optic, integrated optics, and nonlinear optics. Compared to lithium niobate materials, lithium tantalate is transparent in a larger wavelength range (0.28-5.5 μ m), making it a beneficial supplement to lithium niobate in achieving ultraviolet coherent light.
