Frank Peck shows urban street moments at the Tempel Kulturzentrum gallery in Karlsruhe

Urban Moments. Raw Encounters. Human Stories. - 57 everyday photographic stories from Manhattan, on show in Karlsruhe for three days only.

THE EXHIBITION:
For three days in January 2026, the Karlsruhe-based American people and street photographer Frank Peck is bringing his series "57 Flavors of New York City" to the Galerie im Tempel Kulturzentrum. On January 6, 10 and 11, he will be showing 57 picture stories from the city that never sleeps. Each photograph stands for its own "flavor": a mood, a character, an encounter. "57 Flavors of New York City" is a photographic homage to the small moments of everyday life in the big city: glances on the street, gestures at intersections, people at subway entrances, short scenes in front of diners, delis and kiosks. Instead of iconic skyline motifs, Peck is interested in how people come into contact with each other in this dense urban environment - or pass each other by.

NEW YORK AS A FEELING:
"For me, New York is not a geographical point, but a state," says Frank Peck. "The city has a rhythm that never comes to rest. In '57 Flavors of New York City' I show encounters that only exist for moments - glances, movements, random constellations on the street. I don't take photographs to produce perfect postcard images, but to make real people visible." Peck works almost exclusively on foot, with light equipment and available light. His pictures show condensed street scenes, close-ups and faces backlit by shop windows and traffic lights. Technical perfection plays a lesser role than the presence, energy and authenticity of the moment.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER:
Frank Peck is an internationally active American photographer specializing in people and street photography. After years between New York and various stations around the world, he now lives and works in his adopted home of Karlsruhe. He photographs for clients as well as freelance series, is a brand ambassador for the lighting technology manufacturer Rotolight and gives workshops on creative lighting. His projects range from intimate street portraits and emotional wedding reportages to image series for exhibitions.

VERNISSAGE, VISIT & RAFFLE:
The gallery in the Tempel Cultural Center opens for "57 Flavors of New York City" on three days:

- Tuesday, January 6, 2026, 1-7 p.m.
- Saturday, January 10, 2026, 1-7 p.m.
- Sunday, January 11, 2026, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

An exclusive VIP opening event will take place on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 19:30 to 22:30 in the gallery of the Tempel Kulturzentrum (for invited guests only).

Three signed prints from Frank Peck's series "Frank Peck's iPhone Travel Diary" will be raffled off among all visitors to the exhibition. Participation is possible on site during the opening days.
