With the 2025/2026 school year, numerous federal states have introduced new regulations on smartphone use.
Hesse, Bremen and Schleswig-Holstein are already imposing a far-reaching ban on use, while other states such as Saxony and Bavaria are preparing to tighten the rules.
This raises a key question for schools:

How can smartphones be kept safe and organized during lessons -
without placing an additional burden on teachers?

The increasing use of smartphones in everyday school life is leading to debates throughout Germany. Many schools are looking for a practicable solution that reduces disruption, creates clear processes and at the same time minimizes the administrative burden. Specialist agencies also emphasize that mere bans are often not enough.

The German School Portal uses current studies to show the challenges and structural problems that schools face when dealing with smartphones:

Against this backdrop, the company DiaDorn presents the WardHUB - a compact security system for smartphones and small valuables. The WardHUB is made of 2 mm hardened steel, operates completely keyless and is controlled by a PIN code lock. Each device is secured individually; there is no need for central key management. Schools can use it to create fixed or flexible storage models.

Relevance for teachers: Relief in everyday school life

A key point of criticism from many schools:
Teachers should not take responsibility for 20-30 private smartphones.

The WardHUB addresses this problem directly:
- No collection by teachers
- No storage stress
- No liability for private devices
- no chaos in case of loss or damage

Added to this is the low administrative effort due to the public mode:
The generated public PIN expires automatically after each opening. Each use is therefore an individual one-off process - without registration, without queries, without administrative effort for the college.

For exceptional cases - for example, if a locker can no longer be opened - a master PIN is available, which is used exclusively by authorized personnel such as teachers or janitors.

The devices are kept exclusively by the students themselves. This completely eliminates the role of "device management" in the classroom, which is often perceived as a burden.

Technical features of the WardHUB

- Housing made of hardened steel (more robust than stainless steel)

- PIN code lock, completely keyless

- Two operating modes:

- Public mode for daily alternating use

- Private mode for individual compartments

- Attachment via three mounting points on the back

- Can be used in corridors, classrooms, checkrooms or teachers' areas
