The Power Table Launches "16 Days of Naming the Real Problem" - A Global Call for Precision, Accountability, and an End to Men's Violence Against Women

Shirley Osborne, founder of The House of Power and creator of The Power Table, today announced the launch of a bold new 16-day public education initiative designed to disrupt and challenge the global conversation around gender-based violence.

For more than three decades, the international "16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence" campaign has sought to raise awareness. Yet, despite its global reach, violence against women continues at crisis levels. According to the latest UN and WHO estimates, the majority of violence categorized as "gender-based" is, in fact, men's violence against women. The problem is that the language used in policy, media, and global advocacy often tends to obscure that reality.

"If we cannot name the problem, we cannot solve it," says Osborne. "We have spent 33 years discussing this issue, moving from 'violence against women' to 'gender-based violence' as if violence were drifting in the air unattached to perpetrators. It is time to call it what it overwhelmingly is: men's violence against women. Precision is power. Accountability is power. Women deserve both."

Over the next 16 days, Osborne will publish a daily series across Instagram, LinkedIn, and Substack. Each piece will:
• Expose the gaps between current language and actual data
• Present evidence showing the failure of the global campaign to shift outcomes
• Call for accountability, not abstraction
• Offer leadership-driven frameworks for addressing the real issue with honesty and rigor

From homicide data to justice system failures, from political rhetoric to global development indicators, the series will examine why decades of global activism have not led to measurable decreases in violence, and how strengthening language, leadership, and responsibility can help produce real change.

"Women are not experiencing 'gender-based' attacks from the atmosphere," Osborne adds. "They are being harmed by men - individually, systemically, and globally. If we keep avoiding that truth, we will never move the needle on this matter."
