Detailed Application Scenario
In this project, 3M utilized Toray's PTFE-based microporous film laminate for manufacturing high-performance protective suits and filtration modules. The three-layer structure, comprising a PTFE film sandwiched between nonwoven layers, delivered superior vapor permeability while ensuring barrier protection against liquids and aerosols.
The laminate maintained high air permeability (>1,000 g/m2/24h MVTR) and exceptional chemical resistance, making it suitable for use in cleanroom and hazardous material handling environments. Its low weight and soft texture improved user comfort during long operating hours.
3M selected this material due to its balance of breathability and liquid barrier performance, long-term durability, and compliance with ISO 16604 and ASTM F1671 standards. Compared to PU-coated fabrics, the PTFE laminate offered better mechanical strength, reusability, and temperature resistance, demonstrating its vital role in advanced protective and filtration systems.
