Van Tellfaster is a native of Philadelphia, PA. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a law enforcement specialist. He obtained a BA in International Relations from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX, and became a commissioned officer who served in various intelligence positions. He later earned an MA in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma while still serving on active duty at numerous Air Force bases in the United States and in several overseas assignments.
