Indian Women Lead the Way in Eco-Conscious Packaging Choices, Reveals New Study

A recent doctoral study by Piyush Singhal at the Swiss School of Business and Management (SSBM), Geneva has revealed that Indian women are significantly more eco-conscious than men when it comes to packaging preferences and plastic usage.

The research, titled "Perspetive of Indian Consumers Toward Plastic and Its Alternatives," surveyed hundreds of participants across India. Despite men comprising 60.2% of the respondents, the study found that women demonstrated greater concern for environmental impact and were more likely to choose sustainable, recyclable, or biodegradable packaging even at a higher cost.

"Women are emerging as the real change-makers in India's sustainability journey," said Piyush Singhal, who earned his Doctorate in Business Administration for this research. "Their choices are shaping household decisions and pushing brands toward greener alternatives."

The study suggests that brands and policymakers must design sustainability campaigns with gender-sensitive messaging, recognising women's key role as both influencers and early adopters of eco-friendly change in Indian society.
