New YA Adventure "Milly and the Shawl of Athena" Transports Young Readers into a World of Myth, Gaming, and Family Bonds
Set in a decade and inspired by the author's love of history, mythology, fiction, and computer games, this first in the planned series features twelve-year-old Milly Martin, whose ordinary life is turned upside down when she discovers a magical ancient shawl hidden in her missing mother's closet. Accompanied by her clever dog Louie, Milly is transported into a rich world of ancient ruins and game avatars brought to life, where she must use courage, cleverness, and friendship to get home-and perhaps learn the truth about her missing mother.
Differing from most adventure fiction, Milly and the Shawl of Athena merges computer gaming, historical mythology, and emotional realism to entice teenagers and adults. It's an offbeat portal fantasy that tackles themes of family loss, bravery, and hope.
