When Men Behind Bars Lead the Next Generation: Everglades Correctional Partnership with The VERB Kind Brings Hope to At-Risk Youth

When Men Behind Bars Lead the Next Generation: Everglades Correctional Partnership with The VERB Kind Brings Hope to At-Risk Youth
In a story of redemption that transcends walls and wire, men incarcerated at Everglades Correctional Institution are stepping forward to mentor and advocate for young men walking the same path they once did.
Following initial meetings in September and October, the nonprofit The VERB Kind, known for mentoring and transforming the lives of justice-involved youth, has been invited inside Everglades Correctional Institution to speak to a group of men who have a deep desire to make a difference. Some are serving life sentences, yet their focus is no longer on what they've lost, but on what they can give.
On October 22, The VERB Kind will take part in a conference being held inside the walls of the Everglades Correctional Institution, an unprecedented gathering of incarcerated men committed to helping young people avoid the same mistakes that led to their imprisonment.
"This is one of the most beautiful stories of redemption I've ever witnessed," said Haley Hunt, founder of The VERB Kind. "These men have experienced the consequences of broken choices, and now they want to use their voices to help young men find a better way. It's the definition of purpose being reborn."
The VERB Kind, which operates mentoring programs across Florida and Tennessee, works to empower youth in juvenile detention centers through consistent mentorship, education, and life skills development. The organization believes that true change happens when communities on both sides of the justice system come together, those who have been there, and those working to prevent it.
The collaboration at Everglades Correctional Institution is more than an event; it's a bridge, one that connects the wisdom of lived experience with the hope of prevention. It demonstrates that even behind bars, men can lead, inspire, and change lives.
"These are men who understand exactly what's at stake," Hunt added. "They've seen where the road leads, and they want to stand in the gap for the next generation."
The VERB Kind has requested permission for limited media coverage of this extraordinary story to highlight the powerful transformation happening inside Everglades Correctional Institution.
