Government Incentives and National Fertilizer Plan

For reducing its reliance on imported fertilizer, which fulfills over 80% of domestic fertilizer demand, the Brazilian government created the National Fertilizer Plan (Plano Nacional de Fertilizantes), seeking to reduce imports to 45% by 2050. This goal would be achieved via domestic production, tax incentives, and the improvement of infrastructure. In May 2025, Brazil Potash Corporation began to trade Brazilian Depositary Receipts (BDRs) at the B3 stock exchange so it could fund the Autazes Potash Project in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. The project aligns with the Brazilian government's National Potash Plan. That plan seeks to produce more domestically and secure the supply.

Expansion of Cultivated Land and Rising Crop Demand

Brazil's agricultural sector maintains its quick expansion. Soybeans, corn, and sugarcane, among others, accounted for fertilizer demand over there. (Agência de Notícias) The agricultural sector in Q1 2025 grew 12.2% since Q4 2024. It equaled 6.5% of the country's GDP. Still the major area for a large-scale agriculture, within the states of Mato Grosso and Goiás, fertilizer consumption in the Central-West rises with demand for Brazilian agricultural products and the production increase. The use of fertilizers to add nutrients to the soil increases as well.

Technological Advancements and Specialty Fertilizers

Due to the increasing consumption of controlled-release fertilizers (CRFs) and specialty fertilizers in Brazil, in February 2025, Haifa Group inaugurated a Multicote mixing plant in Uberlndia, Brazil for the production of CRFs in order to support the Brazilian market. Specialty fertilizers have become increasingly important for high value crops such as fruits, vegetables, and coffee where precision nutrition is needed. The use of specialty fertilizers has improved the performance and sustainability of various crops through better matching of crop needs.
