Press release from: Aphos GmbH

Sophos SG UTM Subscription Renewals are still possible until December 31, 2025 ( (C) Aphos GmbH / Firewalls24)

Sophos SG UTM Subscription Renewals are still possible until December 31, 2025 ( (C) Aphos GmbH / Firewalls24)

Time is running out for professional users who continue to use Sophos SG series firewalls with UTM software: Existing UTM subscriptions can only be renewed until December 31, 2025. From January 1, 2026, no more renewals will be possible - full support ends on June 30, 2026.

Important deadlines and background information

Since June 2025, higher prices for renewals of existing licenses already apply. At the same time, Sophos has announced that it will completely discontinue license terms of less than six months. This makes the deadline at the end of 2025 the decisive date for all organizations that still want to secure the operation of their SG-UTM systems on a transitional basis.

Migration to Sophos XGS recommended

Parallel to the expiry of the SG series, Sophos recommends switching to the XGS series with Sophos Firewall OS (SFOS). The platform offers higher performance, modern security functions and long-term update and support cycles. The alternatives available to the previous UTM licenses are explained in the overview EOL: SG UTM licenses & alternatives.

Migration offer for SG UTM customers

An extensive trade-in program is currently available for SG-UTM customers who switch to the XGS series in good time. Depending on the model and term, high discounts on hardware and licenses are possible. This offer is intended to make the switch easier and provide IT teams with additional planning security without overburdening them with the details of the migration.

Further information can be found in the accompanying press release Sophos SG UTM End-of-Life and discontinuation of the SG series.

Planning aid for the migration process

For companies, authorities and public institutions that have not yet replaced their SG firewalls, a structured migration plan is recommended now at the latest. As a technically fully accredited Sophos Platinum Partner, Aphos Gesellschaft f?r IT-Sicherheit mbh also provides support:

* Free firewall sizing to select the right XGS successor
* Individual advice on license migration
* Project planning and implementation of firewall migrations

Conclusion: Need for action by the end of the year

The renewal of UTM subscriptions is only possible until December 31, 2025. Organizations that do not make a decision by then risk losing support and security updates from 2026. However, those who switch to the successor platform will benefit from a future-proof infrastructure and can take advantage of the migration conditions currently on offer.
