Artempo celebrates the 700th reseller agreement in Italy
It started as a small arts and craft company; now it celebrates its 700th agreement with an Italian retailer selling its products: we are talking about Artempo, founded in Matera by Nicola Di Cuia, the company’s 40-year-old director.‘This is such a satisfying achievement’ – the energetic entrepreneur explains – ‘usually we do not have time to reflect upon numbers but this success involves almost everybody because it shows that “Made in Italy” is able to face international competitors’. In fact, what Artempo does is not an easy work: the production of lamps and fabric art prints - 400 products included in a rich catalogue, also on-line at www.artempo.it - must be competitive with the supply of goods coming from the East Asia. But the fact that 700 Italian retailers have chosen to bet on Artempo proves that the market appreciates our products and this is absolutely encouraging.
Mr Di Cuia continues: ‘besides the Italian network, we have twelve retailers from foreign countries; among the best markets there are Germany, France, Spain, Greece, Finland, Saudi Arabia, Arab Emirates, Japan. Moreover, we have recently been commissioned a very good job in Dubai: supply contracts to two big hotels of the Emirate.’
How was his passion born? ‘Every time I admired a work of art, a famous painting or a contemporary representation, I happened to think that for me it was important to better highlight the artist’s soul, which had conceived it. I simply wanted to give the image a heart by allowing colors and shades to arouse from it through a play of light, as it happens in a kaleidoscope. So I decided to create my first lamps reproducing famous paintings which were able to stimulate imagination. Subsequently, we started to produce fabric art prints. Today, three designers work to constantly update our production: besides famous paintings, we produce lamps and fabric prints with new subjects which go from Ethnic Art to Pop Art and Black and White subjects. In addition, our business clients can commission customized products with, for example, their company brand on them.’
Just few years ago Artempo was in a small arts and craft workshop; now it has moved to a much bigger factory in Matera: ‘we moved our premises in 2007 and it has been a hard job; in fact, we have never applied for public funds so we decided to increase our productive capacity by relying only on our consolidated order book and our wish to “grow”. The recipe for our success in Italy and abroad is quite simple: the company develops and keeps its own know-how and avails itself of expert craftsmen from its geographical area. As a result, all our products are 100% “Made in Italy”; what is more, the market really appreciates the quality and the wide assortment of our products, our delivery time and - last but not least - our technological innovation.’
‘From 1997, when Artempo was founded’ - Nicola Di Cuia concludes – ‘huge progress has been made. It is worth mentioning that our company is a small company and that our clients’ satisfaction depends on what we do, day by day. I am naturally an optimist, and this is why I am convinced that the market expectation for the Italian production, especially the arts and craft products, has not changed. Next April 2009 we will exhibit in Euroluce, the most important fair of the sector, and there we will present new and intriguing collections. In the meantime, we will continue developing our vital partners network, aiming at gaining more partners from all over the world. Our intention is to simply stimulate imagination in an increasing number of people, by using our distinctive colors, shapes and drawings.
