Erika Lynn Adams was born in Helmstedt, Germany in 1986 and has lived in the United States since 1988. Diagnosed with Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) before the age of two, Adams faced early challenges with communication and comprehension. With the help of specialists, educators, and support systems, she grew to thrive academically, earning an Associate of Arts degree from Lake Superior College in 2007 and a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2013.

APD, while challenging, became a source of inspiration, shaping her passion for storytelling across literature, cinema, music, and interactive media.
