Press release from: PrimaDonna Productions

SAN ANTONIO – With the premiere of a new documentary short featuring actor, comedian, and Latin pop star Jade Esteban Estrada, and encore performances of two favorites of the festival circuit, including "Operation Hitman: Sacrificial Pets", PrimaDonna Productions, a multimedia marketing firm, is ready to showcase both its past and its present film work.

“It’s funny to think that after three years, people still can’t get enough of 'Operation Hitman'”, says the film’s producer and President of PrimaDonna Productions, Nikki Young, “even while they’re waiting for our next film.” Erik Bosse, the film’s director, concurs: “When we were making this film, I had no way of knowing people would still be talking about it today. It has had a life far beyond my expectations.”

Before "Operation Hitman"’s return engagement, another of PrimaDonna’s earlier films, "Rio Grande Odyssey", will be screened at the 30th annual CineFestival en San Antonio – the oldest running international film festival in North America. Directed by Chadd Green, PrimaDonna’s Vice President, "Rio Grande Odyssey" stars poet Rod Stryker, who tells the story of the trials he experiences while trying to make his way back to San Antonio. “This film was a lot of fun to shoot,” says Green, “especially since it was a chance to bring a different kind of art and artist into the medium of film.”

"Rio Grande Odyssey" will be screened on Saturday, April 12 as part of CineFestival’s “Taste of Texas” short film showcase, at 10AM at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center (1300 Guadalupe Street). General admission is only $8, and tickets for students, seniors, and GCAC members will cost only $6. For tickets and reservations, please contact CineFestival at 210.271.3151 or cine@cinefestival.org.

On Sunday, April 13, CineFestival will present a screening of the new documentary "Tortilla Heaven: Behind the Masa". Also directed by Green, "Tortilla Heaven: Behind the Masa" is a documentary film about the evolution of the national touring production of "Tortilla Heaven", performed by Estrada and written by his sister, Celeste Angela Estrada. "Tortilla Heaven" is a story of life, love and making tortillas the American way, and in the documentary, the Estradas talk about the show’s evolution, share unexpected reactions from audiences in other states, and reveal how their grandmother inspired them to share the Tejano culture with the rest of the country.

“It is such an honor to have our film screening at CineFestival,” says Estrada, a San Antonio native who has also appeared in PrimaDonna's award-winning short films "Crush" and "Dating Danielle". “This festival has been at the forefront in presenting films that reflect the diversity and complexity of Latino culture, and I am proud to be a part of its 30th anniversary.”

"Tortilla Heaven: Behind the Masa" will be screened at 11:30 AM on Sunday, April 13 at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center; Estrada will be in attendance.

Following the screenings at CineFestival, "Operation Hitman: Sacrificial Pets" will be screened on May 4 at the Overtime Theater (at 1216 West Avenue). The film (winner of Best Film at the 2006 I.F.M.A.S.A. Film Festival and the Director’s Award at the 2006 Seguin Film & Arts Festival) is a dark comedy about a love-struck young boy who resorts to extreme measures to win the girl of his dreams; Bosse remembers it as “one of the more collaborative projects I have done. Everyone involved was so committed to making the best film they could, and I got to shoot it in my own neighborhood, which is always fun!”

"Operation Hitman: Sacrificial Pets" will be screened on Sunday, May 4 at the Overtime Theater (1216 West Avenue, just north of Hildebrand) as part of the San Antonio Lonely Screenwriters Association's (SALSA) monthly series of screenplay readings; the film’s screenwriter, Richard Dane Scott, will be in attendance. Admission is only $5; for more information and to make reservations, please call 210.380.0326.
