Recognition celebrates pioneering work in using VR technology to address complex social issues

BIRMINGHAM, 9 September 2025 - Claire Downes, CEO and co-founder of Virtual Decisions, has been awarded the Tech for Good Award at the prestigious 2025 Women In Tech Awards ceremony held at Eastside Rooms, Birmingham. The recognition celebrates her pioneering work in using virtual reality technology to address complex social issues and empower positive behavioural change.

Virtual Decisions creates cutting-edge virtual reality educational programmes that immerse users in realistic scenarios, helping them navigate complex decisions in safe, trauma-informed environments. The company's innovative VR films and supporting workshops tackle difficult social issues including anti-social behaviour and knife crime, allowing participants to experience the consequences of their choices whilst fostering meaningful discussions about challenging topics.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to have won the Tech for Good Award, not just for me but for the whole Virtual Decisions team," said Claire Downes. "The award couldn't have come at a better time as we launch our latest project Virtual Decisions Anti-social behaviour in October."

The Women In Tech Awards, now in their 6th year, have expanded to cover the entire UK and aim to promote gender balance across the tech sector. With fewer than 20% of IT roles filled by women and only 5% in leadership positions, the awards highlight the critical need for female representation in technology. The ceremony recognises exceptional women making a real impact in technology, with this year's event celebrating resilience, innovation, and leadership across the industry.

Virtual Decisions' approach combines engaging narratives and relatable characters to change mindsets, reduce risk, and empower individuals to make more positive life choices. The company's trauma-informed methodology ensures participants can explore sensitive topics in a supportive environment that prioritises psychological safety whilst delivering impactful learning outcomes.

Virtual Decisions' programmes have demonstrated measurable impact in changing mindsets and reducing risk behaviours, establishing the company as a leader in using immersive technology for social good and crime prevention.
