Retired Trucker Becomes Published Children's Author in His 70s
Image: https://www.globalnewslines.com/uploads/2025/08/49b38f500ef31f9ca35ab6414347b457.jpgLINCOLNSHIRE, UK - A former lorry driver, mechanic, and police officer has swapped engines and arrest reports for imagination and laughter after becoming a published children's author in his 70s.
Glyn Davies never set out to make a career from writing. In fact, his first book, Trevor the Tractor, was written over 30 years ago in the cab of a broken-down lorry while he waited for a rescue truck. It was a simple bedtime story for his daughter, but decades later those early tales have grown into a published collection delighting children and adults alike.
"I wanted my stories to be a legacy for my grandchildren and great-grandchildren," said Glyn Davies. "If I can make people laugh along the way, that's a bonus."
Drawing inspiration from everyday moments - a quirky shed, an advertising logo, or even childhood Christmas memories, Davies has created a cast of hilarious characters, from the bumbling Catastrophic Santa to intergalactic hero Phartman. His books are a celebration of slapstick humour, inspired by the comedians he grew up watching in the 1950s, such as Laurel and Hardy and Charlie Chaplin.
After careers that took him across Europe and the Middle East, Davies finally turned to Amazon to self-publish his stories. What began as a private project for family has now grown into a heartwarming example of lifelong creativity.
"Growing old is a privilege, but growing up is optional," he added. "I've always loved making people smile, and I'll keep writing for as long as I have ideas."
Davies' books are now available on Amazon and through his website [https://www.glyndaviesbooks.com/], and he hopes they'll continue to entertain "anyone who's still a kid inside" for generations to come.
